Rolling out in phases - what to expect

The Superloop is a community-wide project that will be built in stages across Melbourn.

  • Where we start: We’ll begin surveys in areas closest to our first part of the network. This will be determined by local demand, the data centre location, and the planned route of the underground network. If your area isn’t first, don’t worry – by completing the estimator tool, you’ll be added to a waiting list and we’ll keep you updated as the project progresses.
  • The wait is worth it: Installation will typically  take place 6+ months after your survey once the local network is live. This allows us to design the system perfectly for your street and ensures everything works flawlessly from day one.
  • Help your street get priority: We can’t guarantee the loop will reach every corner of Melbourn yet, it depends on demand. Sharing this with your neighbours is the best way to bring Superloop to your door.

Future-proof your home: The Fibre offer

Why stop at heating? While we connect your home to the Superloop, we are exploring the option to bring Ultra-Fast Fibre Broadband to the village at the same time.

What happens at a home survey

Your home survey is the first step towards cleaner, cheaper heating. It’s all about understanding your home and whether a ground source heat pump is right for it.

During the visit, our engineer will:

  • Look at how much heat your home currently uses
  • Check room sizes and how well your home holds onto heat
  • Talk through your current heating and hot water habits
  • See whether any radiator or plumbing upgrades would help
  • Identify the best location for your heat pump and hot water cylinder

We’ll also chat through:

  • How your energy costs could compare
  • What changes (if any) might lower your bills further
  • What size heat pump would work best for your home

After the survey, we’ll send you a clear, personalised quote by email. There’s no obligation to go ahead!

Older homes can lose heat faster, meaning higher bills. The good news? There are simple ways to improve this.

In a poorly insulated home, heat can escape:

  • Up to 25% through the roof
  • Up to 35% through walls
  • Up to 25% through doors and windows
  • Up to 15% through floors

During your survey, we’ll check how your home performs and talk through any improvements that could help (whether or not you choose to join Superloop).

Seamless installation

The installations will be carried out by MCS-certified engineers, and most installs are completed in 2–4 days.

  • Stay warm: We can provide temporary electric heaters if needed, so your routine isn’t interrupted.
  • Simple Controls: Once installed, we’ll show you how to use your new system. It works just like a traditional boiler, using a familiar thermostat and timer.
  • Expert Setup: We’ll ensure your system is set up to meet the needs of your household.

What happens next?

  • You’ll receive a welcome pack with everything you need
  • Your heat pump runs on electricity (you can stay with your current supplier or switch)
  • We recommend a smart tariff such as Cosy Octopus to save even more
  • You’ll have access to UK-based, 5*-rated customer support from Kensa for the lifetime of your heat pump
  • Kensa’s PREDICT software will monitor your heat pump performance, ensuring everything is working as it should
  • Like all heat networks, Superloop will be regulated by Ofgem. This gives you peace of mind that you are protected by the same rigorous standards as traditional gas and electricity suppliers, ensuring fair pricing and reliable service.
  • Kensa and Superloop are members of the Heat Trust, providing you with industry-leading consumer protection.  You can find out more about how the Heat Trust works for heat network customers here. Every installation is MCS-certified, the gold standard for renewable energy quality. This accreditation is also your key to unlocking the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant. We’ll guide you through the paperwork and help you claim the funding you’re entitled to.
